Q-75 12/11/50 to 6/25/10 RIP Photos |
|
Posted by The I MAN on Sat Jun 26 09:42:32 2010 As promised I rode and recorded the final round trip on my line, the Q-75.This is one of the ten most remote places in the five boroughs that a bus route terminated. Yes parking will now be allowed here Is was appropriate that an RTS be the final bus to serve this line. RTS's first came to Queens Village depot in 1983, after the Grumman Flxible debacle and their younger brothers have been there since. I want that sign At the 165 Street bus terminal awaiting The final eastbound run. The operator steps outside during the layover. Yes, only three passengers aboard the final eastbound run, myself, another operator who was filming the round trip for posterity and a guy who got off at Union Turnpike |

The only way that route could have been saved was an extension to Jamaica Center and Queensboro Community College. There's that and also the fact that wrong route was eliminated in those neighborhoods - it should have been the QM1/A. It's a lot cheaper to have people use the Q30/46/75/88 than it is to run over 260 express trips per day. |

The Q-75 started service by the Board of Transportation on April 28th, 1952, which originally ran from 175th Street-Hillside Avenueto 67th Avenue-230th Street via Hillside Avenue, 188th Street, and 73rd Avenue. And BTW, I like that sign too! MWAP |

I pulled out the April/May issue of Motor Coach Age and the issue was about City bus routes in Queens. The writer was Bernard Linder, current editor of the New York Division Bulletin and noted transit historian. The opening of the line was indeed on April 28, 1952. Sorry for the error. I had assumed that the line opened the day after the IND Queens line was extended to 179 Street on Sunday December 10, 1950. |
