The MTA needs to get over themselves already, there is no lingering anger from last summer. They need to realize that the service on Staten Island is abysmal and something Needs to be done! Yesterday afternoon around 6:00pm, I waited 35 minutes for a St George bound S44 bus, when it should be running every 15 minutes. (*NOTE: Cleaninless is not my issue, it's the physical service provided, as GOHed 9392 arrived and was very clean*) I think it's worth noticing that close 3,771 Staten Islanders took time out to express their opinions! That's almost a thousand (or over a thousand) more than any other borough. The MTA should not take this lightly and stride to make improvements to boost the grade. (Which I highly doubt if they're already coming up with excuses) If the express buses received a D+, Staten Island's Local Bus service is definitely destined to get between a D, D- or F. |

When i went to college in Staten Island, i used to take the s61. The driver had a run on the X2 line and if he was late getting back, the bus was late. Not sure if they still do split runs like this. Hopefully Charleston depot will alleiate the situation. |

I don't live on Staten Island; I live on Long Island where there is adequate LIRR service, at least in my area (SW part of Nassau). But I can sympathize. One issue not mentioned is historical. When the VZ bridge was designed (1957-59), rail tracks were specifically excluded thanks to Robert Moses, who was pro-auto and anti-transit. Today all New Yorkers live with his short-sighted legacy. The BMT could have accessed the VZ bridge by building a spur off of the Sea Beach Line (today's N) that would follow the Gowanus Expressway r.o.w. onto the bridge. Once on Staten Island the SI Railway could have been used. Many Staten Islanders would have had rail access to Manhattan, something sorely lacking today and probably never to happen. Buses would not have been the only means for a one-vehicle ride to/from Manhattan. What a shame. |

Even though it would have been better than nothing, I don't know about that one as the (N) and (R) take their sweet old time whether they're local or express. I definitely agree with your points OTOH. It is a shame what Staten Island has come down to. I look upon Staten Island as though a 12 year old was playing a (disaster-free) game of SimCity and everything went wrong. |

X63 riders were too generous. Granted, I like the route since it's the route I use the most but it's a rush hour-only route that doesn't run as frequently as it should. There is a bunching problem. The schedules aren't listed at any bus stop. The X1 received a lousy score-and I partially agree. On Memorial day I busfanned the X1 to Staten Island. I got to Broadway and Park Place around 3:45PM. After a 10 minute wait the bus arrived. It was so packed that I had to let it go. The second bus arrived 4 minutes later. It had 5 open seats. I managed to get a seat. However, by the time it reached the Battery Tunnel there were people standing in the aisle. The worst part was that there was this man standing next to me who weighed about 300 pounds. He smelled like he hadn't showered in a month. I had to smell that from the Battery all the way to the Verrazano. Ironically, when it arrived in Eltingville there were two buses right behind it. The express bus is the best option for traveling, but there is room for improvement. |

In the 1920's, as part of the Dual Contracts, a tunnel was begun that would have linked the 4th Avenue BMT between the 59th and 69th Street Stations with Staten Island. As many people have commented on SubTalk in the past, construction was stopped after about a year and never resumed. On the S.I. side the SIR would have been used, of course. At the same time the SIR electrified its lines with a 3rd rail and cars that could fit into BMT tunnels. |

With this being the case...I really wonder if a route like the S53 (all) or S79 (split) should be transferred to Brooklyn Division...if Ulmer Park can get the room, with the B3 being moved to Flatbush, and the B64 or B1 being moved to Gleason (which have room following the loss of the B43, B47, and B61 this year to Grand Avenue). |

Don't get me wrong, but Staten Islanders are going to have to make themselvers heard by submitting statements at board meetings to get the attention of 347 Madison. Increased pressure gets results, especially the issue of no-show vehicles...although this issue may be citywide at this time. |
