The BMT could have accessed the VZ bridge by building a spur off of the Sea Beach Line (today's N) that would follow the Gowanus Expressway r.o.w. onto the bridge. Once on Staten Island the SI Railway could have been used. Many Staten Islanders would have had rail access to Manhattan, something sorely lacking today and probably never to happen. Buses would not have been the only means for a one-vehicle ride to/from Manhattan. What a shame.

The BMT was actually looking to extend the (R) train from 95th Street to the Grasmere SIR Station! Even though it would have been better than nothing, I don't know about that one as the (N) and (R) take their sweet old time whether they're local or express.

I definitely agree with your points OTOH. It is a shame what Staten Island has come down to.

I look upon Staten Island as though a 12 year old was playing a (disaster-free) game of SimCity and everything went wrong.
