Posted by roscoman1986 on Wed Jun 18 01:13:49 2008, in response to Re: 6173 (was Re: PHOTOS Valley Metro 06.14.08), posted by PHXTUSbusfan on Tue Jun 17 22:44:45 2008. The 1998 NABI 40-LFWs came with Luminator LEDot signs. The 1999 NABI 35-LFWs and 40-LFWs came with Twin Vision LEDot signs. Also, the Tempe NABI 45C-LFWs have retained their Twin Vision signs and the "runbox" by the front door. These buses (4157-4163) and E-Z Rider 4129 (which still has Twin Vision LEDot signs) are the only ones that have them still (I am not counting the 2008 C40LFRs since that runbox is mechanical and is set up if the electronic signs fail). Here's a sign anomaly summary off the top of my head: Phoenix: One of the 1996 New Flyer D40LFs (3709?) had a Luminator LEDot front sign in it as opposed to the Mega:MAX signs that the others have. There are (as of earlier this year) two 1997 Nova RTS running out of Phoenix West for the route 571-Surprise. These buses are notable because they have NO SIGNS AT ALL, and instead rely on the runbox to display the route number. They used to have rollsigns, but they were removed and not replaced, so the space above is just filled with fluorescent lights. 1998 NABI 40-LFW 6107 has a (mostly broken) Luminator full-color headsign. The side and rear signs are still Luminator LEDot. This sign was installed around 2004. Sister 1998 NABI 40-LFW 6108 is the ONLY Phoenix Division bus to have Luminator Horizon front, side, and rear signs that work sometimes. 2002 NABI 40-LFW 6291 has TwinVision Chroma IV full-color signs on the front, side (driver side does not work) and rear. This special bus is in normal Valley Metro colors during the Spring and Fall, wrapped as the Flag Bus during summer (current) and wrapped as the Holiday Bus during winter. During the Spring and Fall the front signs are not maintained and are shut off. Tempe (all buses have Luminator Horizons since 2007 except the following): 1999 E-Z Rider bus 4129 never had its Twin Vision LEDot signs replaced and they apparently still work (not today for some reason though, but I saw them working on Saturday). 1999 NABI 40-LFWs 6254-6255 have broken Twin Vision LEDot signs of a different type than 4129. These two buses are completely different from each other in both sign configuration and interior. 2000 E-Z Rider buses (Scottsdale owned) 4150-4152 were transfers from the RPTA in late 2007 after the Luminator Horizon sign program had been completed. So, they still retain their Luminator LEDot signs. 4153-4154 have Luminator Horizons. 2004 NABI 45C-LFWs 7157-7164. Earlier this year these buses had their signs reprogrammed to Phoenix-style lower case. Also, bus 6166 was the pilot bus for the Luminator Horizon sign replacement program. It had a Luminator Horizon sign installed in the front only (the sides and rear were still LEDot until 2007). This sign was formatted slightly different, most notably it scrolled "NOT IN SERVICE" rather than using the lowercase "Not in Service". |
