Go to gothamist.com/2006/11/28/cops_graffiti_v.php or simply google Patrick McCormick Graffiti and read the articles that pop up. His "MAP" tag scratched into interior stainless steel of the R-68's has been there for years. His Single "M" tag with the side wings is in all five boroughs and it is next to every elevated subway line. He is now 37 and I kow for a FACT that he continues to vandalize despite a rap sheet a mile long. The problem is that no matter what the punishment is, his MAP tag or the M will remain on TA and private property until the building is torn down or the R-68 is retired. THat is the real outrage. |

Your so obsessed you are now linking 2006 articles on graffiti writers on here. It amazing but you even read the tags.I think subconsciously you wish you did it as a child. Give it a rest already. Their is a lot more big concerns in life then some paint on a wall. I wonder if you complain to your local community board when they build all these ugly ass condo 's in almost every area of Brooklyn. Ugly ass Condo's are a lot hard to remove then some paint on a wall. |

No it is absolutely amazing that vandals are allowed to continue vandalizing for decades. This vandalism costs us billions annually in the US alone. How long will taggers like PK, JA ONE, DOZ, MAP, & RD remain around? How many surfaces will they destroy? Maybe if one of them destroyed your personal property maybe just maybe you may see the light. The condos are for OT, however, I would rather see new construction that is maintained then old structures in a state of disrepair. THe new structures encourage new residents to move in and remain as NYC taxpayers rather than move to the suburbs. If you have ever been to Franklin Lakes, NJ it is a very posh town. Now if you drive south on the local roads, within a few miles you start to see gates and graffiti. You are in Patterson and your impression of the community is poor. The same is true for communities throughout NYC. Even in the High End communities, the commercial strips look bad. Start on the Sunrise in South East Queens and drive east, once you are into Nassau, the commercial strips look much nicer. |

My friend, they are not kids, this is why I listed a bunch of taggers. These are men in their 30's & 40's. The spray paint law is a joke due to their age. If it were only kids, then maybe just maybe I would not be as over the top about it. But....... they are not kids. They are adults. Adults should know better. Maybe this situation may help, these adults that tag up roof tops and highways etc.. probably need something to give them the courage to reach these dangerous locations. And we all know that taggers that go out on bombing sprees hit several areas in one night. How are they getting around? They are driving. Is it to outrageous to assume that they are most likely under the influence of drugs or alcohol? WOuld you want to encounter their car @ 2:00 AM? |

This debate is simply going around in circles. We're mixing apples & oranges or consequences and punishment. Assume instead of painting a train, the criminal was robbing a bank. Also assume instead of losing his leg to a subway train wheel, he lost it to a police officer's gun. The bottom line is that the loss of the leg was a consequence of the criminal behavior. We would fully expect that the criminal justice system would not forgive the bank robber solely because of the loss of the leg. It would still expect that some punishment is due. |

All shoes are live. And you can touch any one of them without getting hurt IF YOU ARE NOT GROUNDED.OK, this dude was standing on the ground, but he really was not grounded, was he? His shoes probably had rubber soles, the concrete wall does not conduct much electricity, Maybe he was not standing in a puddle, or holding on to something metal. Contact was brief and broken when the train moved away. And how do you know that there was not electrical damage inside of his body? Wounds like this are not obvious until organs stop working or something. Even if he was standing in a puddle, then maybe the exit wound from the electrical strike was on the foot that is now gone. In other words, the electricity entered at his shin and went out through the bottom of his foot. Maybe that *IS* the reason why he lost his foot. There are reasons why they do not want idiots walking around on the railroad tracks. ROAR |

The bottom line is that the loss of the leg was a consequence of the criminal behavior. We would fully expect that the criminal justice system would not forgive the bank robber solely because of the loss of the leg. It would still expect that some punishment is due.My mother had her leg amputated a couple of months shy of her 86th birthday. I was the caregiver during her recuperation. Recovery from a leg amputation is costly and time consuming. The expense does not stop with getting fitted with a prosthesis after half a year. Artificial legs have to be replaced every couple of years because the shape of the stump changes. They're expensive - several grand a pop. There's also the continuing cost of replacing wool socks for the stump when wearing the prosthesis. Wool socks of a calibrated thickness are not cheap. The problem is that incarceration will be more expensive to the prison system and society than letting the family bare these costs at home. If this person was encouraged by his neighbors that graffiti in tunnels was a right of passage, the sight of him hobbling around the neighborhood should be a far greater deterrent to others than a stay in prison. |

Did "BONZI" outgrow it??? These people have been doing it since they were kids, and now they are grown ups still doing it. What about "TRACY 168", who is damn near 50 years old and STILL doing it!! (His disgraceful "work" is seen along the MNR right of way in the Bronx, especially at Tulnoy Lumber who has his tag scrawled on the sides!!) Even clothign designer Marc Ecko admitted to doing it when he was a kid and even supports graffiti still to this day. "LADY PINK" didn't outgrow it, and she is like in her late 40s. Being 16 years old means you have the capacity to know right from wrong, to understand danger, and know enough not to commit wrong and to keep yourself out of trouble and out of danger!! Much like the teenager who got himself run down on the LIRR Main Line in Forest Hills, he was of age to know right from wrong and to understand dangers and to understand legality and illegality!! FUCK THEM ALL!!! They played with fire once too often and they got burned!! This 16 year old idiot could have learned from the Queens kid's example but he didn't, and now every time he looks at his missing leg, puts on and has to adjust his prosthetic, he can look at the "tag" the train gave him, and now he has to live with it for the rest of his life!! I feel no pity for a person who understands right from wrong, knew vandalism is illegal, and YES FOLKS, TO THOSE HERE WHO SEEM TO SUPPORT GRAFFITI, GRAFFITI IS A CRIME, GRAFFITI IS VANDALISM!! IT IS NOT ART!! If you want art, LEGALLY paint a mural in your community. LEGALLY pursue art thru school and college study and make money from it, not risk having your life ended, or being maimed for the rest of your life. I am sorry, but I feel absolutely no pity for these people who do these stupid things, and all for what??? Fame??? Notoriety??? Street value??? Props from your homies??? BULLSHIT!!! He got what he deserved, and the only person who I feel sorry for is the motorman who had to go thru it, and how he will have to go thru investigations and all this bullshit!! And what sucks is that this dumbass' family will sue, and MTA will have to pay up!!! Hasn't anyone heard how part of MTA's money problems comes from legal payouts, especially in something like this. This dude committed a crime, fucked with the bull one time too many and the bull gave him the horns!!! FUCK HIM!! Hopefully someway, somehow others could learn from it!! Sadly, they won't and more incidents like this will continue to happen. Call me cold, call foul, call me what you wish, but I speak my mind!! Graffiti is NOT art!! Graffiti IS A CRIME!! And for the record, not only should he have to suffer with his injuries, but I hope charges are pressed against him too!! My only wish is that this place was like Singapore when a little punk gets caught for vandalism!! Michael Faye is probably still feelings the effects of his stupidity to this day!! |

That is exactly how I feel, I don't have any feelings for thugs and criminals like that dirtbag scum. He got what he deserves, too bad the train didn't kill him. |
