Actually, I think everyone who has a pistol should be required to take a course and qualify minimally on the weapon. Back in the day I'd sometimes get a coworker who'd tell me he wanted a pistol. I always told them "if you do, get thorough training, or the first victim is likely to be you. Otherwise, if you MUST have a weapon at home, get a long gun."
