Yes, it was so common in the 70's and 80's. I remember riding on Broadway in Brooklyn on the el in the 80's, and there were more abandoned/burned buildings than in use buildings. Anyone who didn't live through the 80's in NYC could never comprehend it. |

I think some of it is Beat Street.There are two shots from Fresh Pond Rd. 7:04-7:08 was shot from a rooftop overlooking Fresh Pond Yard. 8:22-8:25 is Fresh Pond Station. Most of the footage is from the The Bronx though. |

You are absolutely 100% correct, the "Island Paradise" photo is Fresh Pond Rd, looking from Putnam towards 67th Ave, at the station. That is Maasbach's restaurant seen under the el, which was there until the late 90's. Most definitely Ridgewood. |

Yes, I agree with that too, although I can't say it 100% like I did for the Fresh Pond shot, which is WITHOUT a doubt Fresh Pond (Maasbachs is as clear as day).The Rockaway one I would say I am about 95% sure, that's an R10 which sort of clinches it, and I say it's where the liberty el connects to the unused part of the Rockaway line.

It's the back of a GM New Look a/k/a "fishbowl" with no A/C. A mainstay of surface transit in US and Canada from 1959 on. last manufactured in 1986. The last private operator in the NYC area to use "new looks" was NY Bus Service, in "suburban" configuration (high back seats, reading lamps, luggage racks and no rear exit door) until about 5(?) years ago when the operator and others was acquired by the MTA. There was a modified version called the "new look classic" that is still used in Toronto and was manufactured by MCI who acquired GM coach,until 1993, when GM got out of the coach business for good. It continued to be manufactured by NOVAbus, with the Canadian market being the primary customers,until 1997. NovaBus also made Classics in the US in 1995 and 1996 from its now-defunct New York state plant. That version are the ones that are used in Buffalo, Connecticut, Rochester, the suburbs of Chicago (Pace), and Pittsburgh, who was the last transit agency in the U.S. to acquire Classics.* If you ever visit Toronto you'll see tons of them, originals and classics, still in everyday service (even some as trolley buses). They were tough buses.The one in the picture looks to be non-TA, I could be wrong about the non-TA part but I'm 80% certain it is not TA, maybe former TA. WITHOUT A/C  WITH A/C  \MCI New Look Classic From a former "private" acquired by the MTA. In "MTA Bus" livery  A classic in Liberty Lines livery. IINM, this bus is owned by an occasional poster to Buschat, I am cross posting this thread to Buschat to correct any errors I may have made. My point was that the vandal had to be standing on firm ground to get that kind of height and do such a "good job" in "mural" format, which standing on the ground of a yard would not allow.I suspect this was a snow bird, likely for the weekend, allowing the vandal to stand on the raised concrete walkway and take his sweet time. |

No. Liberty Lines had a handful that the ran mostly on the Concourse/Riverdale Express route to mid-town One was prominently featured in the 1984 Robin Williams Movie.Moscow On The Hudson bringing the visiting Russian musicians to Bloomingdale's, where the Williams character defects. They cleverly featured a "Liberty Lines" bus for the irony making it a part of the story line. Good move on the part of the director, IMO.NJTransit and it's 2 earlier incarnations had a crowd of them, all 2nd hand, that were run on suburban commuter runs to PABT. This bus ran for the Public Service, TNJ, or what is now known as the New Jersey Transit. I don't recall if any ever received NJTransit livery, many did get Transport Of NJ livery: Most transit agencies used the "suburban" version (high back seats, reading lamps, mostly manual transmissions, luggage racks, raised floors and only no rear door.) of the GM "fishbowl for express and commuter runs. |
