HTML Tutorial for SubChatters |
|
Posted by Amanda on Fri Jun 3 14:07:15 2005 This is on-topic because it pertains to this message board. I've noticed a few people still don't know how to put images and links in their profiles. Here is a quick tutorial for happier SubChat reading:*NOTE* In the following codes, replace brackets ( [ & ] ) with less-than and more-than ( < & > ) signs 1) To put things in bold, surround the word(s) you want bolded with and 2) To put things in italics, surround the word(s) you want italicized with and 3) To put things with an underline, surround the word(s) you want underlined with and 4) To post a photo, use the following code: 5) To post a hyperlink, use the following code: [a href="http://www.subchat.com"] The text you want to display [/a] 6) To post a photo hyperlink (a photo that will lead you to a website), use the following code: [a href="http://www.subchat.com"] [/a] Just plug in what you need to plug in, it's as easy as pie. |

I think there is a way to put in the < and > so they can still be seen. In any event, I think Larry should consider linking to this information, although I can understand if he chooses not to. |

When posting an HTML tutorial, use the following codes to avoid the confusing "replace this with that":For < use < For > use > For & (so you can type < without it becoming <) use & For & use &amp; and so on. Remember that lt stands for "less than," gt for "greater than" and amp is short for ampersand. |

And yet some people will still refuse to use HTML and will continue pasting URL's as plain text. Can't say you didn't try... |

Most message boards automatically convert URL's to hyperlinks. I wonder why this one doesn't.From what I've seen, most don't, but it requires code to automatically convert the hyperlinks, and some people don't like the auto-conversion. With this message board, it's converting your text using basic html tags such as <br>. It's up to you to feed additional HTML. |

Can't say you didn't try...This I agree with, I mean all you really need to know is the bold, italic, underline [not so much as bold or italic but still good], image and link codes. All of the other stuff is extra. BTW, nice tutorial Amanda. |

Most message boards automatically convert URL's to hyperlinks. I wonder why this one doesn't. I frequent a forum where the webmaster does not permit HTML, but his site will recognize "http://..." and "mailto:..." and will create the links in the post automatically. It can be done, if somebody wants to do it. Hmm... Too bad he doesn't do it with "img src=..." Maybe I'll suggest it to him. |

In addition, the this would cause people's custom HTML URLs to be broken, and more complicated coding would be needed to prevent that. And before you ask, using HTML to create links where auto linking is available would still be a useful feature as you can create links with text that's different from the URL like this |

There's an actually easier way to accomplish this...Use the <font size="[number you want from 1 (SUPER SMALL) to 18(THE BIGGEST YOU CAN MAKE)]">the text you want in that size, and then, close the argument with </font> For colored text...add the sub-argument color="(the color you want [i.e.: darkblue, blue, red, darkred])" to the font argument. For different font faces, use the face="(name of font [i.e.: Arial])" sub-argument within that. Here's an example of something..... This is my typical "quote" formatting. Now in code... <font face="Arial" color="darkblue">This is my typical "quote" formatting.</font> |
