I am not saying that it can't be done just that it shouldn't that's all it is only my opinion.I did not realize that the R68's are 75 footers, just looked it up on nycsubway.org. I guess you cannot walk through them too. |

When i talked to him today he didnt seem upset at all over it he even told me so your "thinking" he was upset is incorrect.Sure, claiming he has to put his ambiguous statement in 'simple' terms shows he was absolutely no upset by Brian's query. I'm sure he intended no insult whatsoever. More useless words either you do or you dont plan and simple. Fine, do you understand the term 'test', right? I know for a fact that the RCC conducts tests of the ATS and CBTC systems from time to time. Thus it would not be outside the realm of possibilities for the RCC to do a test of the failure of the CBTC system. Criticizing someone for mistaking NE T/O's misspelling of "due" is completely unneccesary and only brings the board down further. Nothing is stopping you from not posting here anymore if what some people do to a person here bothers you. Of course, and the same is true of those who would like to see other members of the board banned for some slight, real or imagined. Im not saying it's right either. I dont get caught up in stuff on a Internet Message board which has no affect on me in real life. No offense, but you do seem to end up in the middle of these debates quite frequently. I'll admit you're usually a voice of reason. I tloosk to me it got you all riled up. No, I simply don't appreciate someone trying to tell me to clam up when I'm watching others defame him on an extremely personal basis every day. |

"Jackson Park B train made an excellent point about it becoming a jobs program. If you want your little foothold to your dream of becoming a T/O then fine, just don't bitch when the fare goes up again."The fare going up does not reflect the true cost of the bloated workforce and poor operating procedures. It now cost $125 to apply for a learners permit to drive. This kills the working poor and the middle class who need cars to get to work and to live a normal life. Want to register a car GOOD LUCK they are socking your there also. I had to lend a friend who just got a job offer in NJ (once again due to high taxes in NYC business relocated to NJ) He needs to drive there and it will cost him $300 plus in fees to get a learners permit, a road test and drivers licence. Not to mention the high sales tax on the car he will need to buy. LET ME MAKE MYSELF PERFECTLY CLEAR. Many of the conductor and station agent positions eliminated by updating operating procedures will be offset by hiring new security/customer service who will 1) assist in emergencies 2) provide customer service 3) Enforce the fare and fine those who hold doors 4) monitor CCTV camera's similar to what is done in malls to provide 100% coverage to all station which will cut down on vandalism and fare evasion((which will reduce the number of cleaner and painter jobs saving money) The goal is a better operating transit system that is safer and cleaner and runs better for the riding public and tax payers. |

The reasons you brought up to oppose OPTO are not based in reality of how modern transit systems operate and what the real needs of the transit system is. 4 car or full length trains, Operating the doors via cctv is not affected by train length. I do agree that just cutting the Conductor and not revamping other areas to fill in the gaps to help T/O when there are issue with passenger is a mistakeNYC subways needs the following improvements 1) Integrated security and customer service approach to -assist in emergencies - A goal to Monitor 100% of the system via cctv, roaming security or security booths full integrated with NYPD currently less then 10% of the stations and trains are monitored in real time by personel or via cctv(live or on tape) This leads to delayed responces to emergencies, repeated vandalism of stations and trains, frequent fare evasion even in front of station agents and delayed trains by people holding doors. 2)A signal system that can handle more train in rush hour and run faster to cut down commutes from the outer boroughs 3) real time information screens in station to keep passenger abreast of when the next train will arrive. 4)more frequent train service overnight which can be accomplished by running shorter trains more often via OPTO(which cuts down power and maintaince cost) or full length trains using OPTO. You will see a 10% increase or more in nigh time ridership especially in the Manhattan as people move from cab back to the subway generating extra revenue. 5) More ADA station with elevators (more elevators means more elevator fixers jobs) This costs money . The only way this can be provided is to adjust job function to match current needs. Spend the money we are currently on the outdated job functions and redeploy it where it is needed Dedicated door operators are not needed. Dedicated fare sales clerks are not needed. Create a new position that is flexible that includes the job function that are needed from both of the old positions. PRESTO new security customer service position. This saves money because there are fewer total workers needed (less extra extra people) less vandalism fewer painters etc |

"just how accessible is the C/R"No accessible at all. If you are more than 2 cars from the conductor is highly unlikely that you will get his attention before the doors close. Just try to switch cars on an r-68 at a local station on the Q. You need to be ready to go and run as soon as the doors open.(done it many times) A conductor on a train does not return the bang for the buck spent vs intercoms and other methods It is a crime that all new trains did not come with cctv installed from the factory. No need to run to the conductor if the crew is monitoring the train at all times. This is a dumb move by the union. this could be another justification for keeping conductors on trains to monitor the cameras in between stations. |

Guys the current job roles need to be updated to be useful due to current needs. This will make it safer for all and yes less expensive to operate. MTA workers are tax payers too. they are paying the increase fees on auto' and tolls and will be the most affective if layoffs are needed because the public has had enoughthe Politicos have be careful to give little sweetners to those who will oppose the increases in tolls the most SI half price tolls Frequent express buses etc This can not go on forever |
