If only...It looked as if the speedometer was on the fritz. And in any event, my understanding is that the track speed on Met "Fast" (express) services was limited to 50 MPH long ago. But before that, the A60s reportedly had enough juice in them to hold their own in "races" with Chiltern DMUs (the non-electrified tracks on the left hand side of the screen is the Chiltern branch from Marylebone to Aylesbury.) All that said, the A60 featured here was going at a pretty good clip. |

I have ridden the Metropolitan Line over this stretch plenty of times and they never, ever go this fast. Not only are they limited as has been said (according to an article about the Met in a current train magazine), the ride would be white-knuckle to say the least as the track is not overly smooth.The first [x] sets of replacement stock for the A60 trains exist(s), and is under testing at the moment. |

When I lived in London in 1978-79 and my main stop was Finchley Road, the speed limit for the A stock was still 70mph. They roared through the outer tracks of Wembley Park on the fast service. My father lived there until 1981 and trains were still fast. When he moved back to London in the early nineties, he lived near Hampstead station so I didn't ride the Met much but I think it's sometime in the nineties that they lowered the speed limit. |

They show a picture of a "suicide pit" at a tube station. |
