When I lived in London in 1978-79 and my main stop was Finchley Road, the speed limit for the A stock was still 70mph. They roared through the outer tracks of Wembley Park on the fast service. My father lived there until 1981 and trains were still fast. When he moved back to London in the early nineties, he lived near Hampstead station so I didn't ride the Met much but I think it's sometime in the nineties that they lowered the speed limit. |
