That might be the reason why the R40M/42 sets you saw on the V! Also, don't forget the R160B sets (9103-9162) got transferred to Jamaica for the trains needed on the F for its R46's to go to the G. Don't forget, the V's fleet suppliments from the F, and the F gets the spill-over from the E, and the R, well, that is mostly R46 with an occasional R32/40M/42! And also don't forget that R46's as the R160A2 Option 1 order comes in to Jamaica, transfers more R46's to Pitkin. |

The R-42's replaced the standards, The standards were outcast to the Canarsie Line in their final years.I would think the R-42's might of gone that way if it was not for the R-143.I think the R-42's are lucky to get the grand tour! |

Seeing a car type running on a line that it ordinarily does not fascinates me as well. I'd love to see an R142/a on the 1 or the 3, a 62 on the 2 or a 160 on the G, just to give a few examples.Error's dislike of R46s is a matter of individual taste, and I don't question it. Loss of the blue stripe lowered the appeal of the R46 to me, although I don't hate 'em. OTOH, the 44s on the A really DO look like s*** to me- I won't miss them at all when their time comes. |

They were divided between Concourse, Coney Island, ENY and Jamaica to assure as many people as possible had a chance to enjoy the air conditioning. I'm sure there was some grumbling that all 200 A/C equipped R40's were sent to Jamaica only. |

Wonder how the C/R operated (1/3 or 3/1?) Probably the latter, no reason for the C/R and T/O to be in the same car, although that probably happened back when the SS ran a pair of 32s with a single R-11. I don't understand why (and if it's be mentioned here, I missed it) why St. Louis car didn't put C/R controls in the operating ends of the R-40s and R-42s. |
