How appropriate!According to the chronology of equipment assignments, the first train of Slant R-40's was operated on the F, March 23, 1968. Oh, how different was our world then! Got any good RFK videos? Regards, George Chiasson Jr. (Widecab5@aol.com) |

Hey George! Is the reason why the 6XXX series R-46's were sent to Pitkin instead of the 5XXX series because of the R-44's are also numbered in the 5XXX's ? To avoid confusion ? Bill "Newkirk" |

I'll be out there if the last run is this coming Friday,as it looks like the end for the Slants is very near.I'll be "Locked and Loaded" with Kodachrome 64 Slide Film,to preserve this for the ages... |

Well I was simply coming home today and my A-train were the slants, I wasn't in the first or last car so I had to take them all the way to 207th:Before doubling back to 181st: To get probably my final slant photos, in addition to taking quite a few of the interiors. I'll never forget as a little kid to short to look out a regular front window waiting specifically for the slants on the B train so I could look out the front. --- The SubwayNut Check out my new blog: Leave no station unphotographed |

What I still don't understand is how Jamaica can transfer all these R46's (around 80 cars now!?) to Pitkin.Jamaica gets new R160's, fine. They run on the E and F, where they are replacing R32's, R40M's and R42's. But where do all these R46's for Pitkin come from? Are R46's taken off the F and replaced by R160's, instead of R40/42's? But then, there are still only 4 sets of R160's running on the F while some 10 sets of R46's have been transferred to Pitkin. What do I miss here? |

NYCT has decided that the R40 Slants are the next cars to be reefed, but Pitkin is not scheduled to receive R160's right now so something must be transferred over to take their place. Barring a change in plans, future deliveries of R160's to Jamaica will begin to directly replace the R40 Mods and R42's there. |

Shouldn't the R-44 not be able to fit in the bays at 207th St. if the R-46's can't ? Bill "Newkirk" |

R46's (displaced by R160's) have been transfered to Pitkin to replace the slants. Additional R46's will eventually replace 207's R32's once the R40M/R42 are gone from Jamaica. |

R160's are not replacing Jamaica's R32/40/42 at the present time en masse. These are replacing R46's. Only a few of the oldies are being retired for now, just the basket cases.Once the slants are gone from Pitkin, then R160's at Jamaica will replace R32/40m/42 en masse. |

They can't fit 2 4 car units of 75 foot cars onto the same track at 207 YD barn. They can fit a 4 and a 2. That's how the barn was made. Don't forget, that place was built for single cars, the R1/9. 9 of them to a track because you need space at the end for the workers to descend the stairs to get underneath the cars. |
