From a previous message: "I would say only the segments where the shuttle stops at especially for the shelters. And obviously to make sure the platforms are safe enough to walk on, but other than that pretty much not more than that till the other more patronized station stations gets rehabbed 1st.IMo Rockaway Pk Branch would've been the very last segment to be repaired unless there were severe deteriorations. " This kind of sounds like the following situation: "The daily beatings will stop when morale improves - From Sade Your Manager". Followed to a certain degree this kind of statement creates s catch-22 situation - the station will not be improved until the ridership grows but the ridership won't grow because the station is horrible. While no one is going to build the Taj Mahall in a subway station, a certain level of amenties is needed. Mike |

Most of the route is on Beach Channel Drive and that is the main road of the Rockaways, next to the Rockaway Freeway. There's no need for a bus route on the other cross penisula roads when people can walk to the nearest bus stop. There was another bus route, the Q21A, that ran east of the Cross Bay Bridge along time ago. I have a Queens Bus map from 1989 that has it. |

Just because its the least used, it doesn't mean it shouldn't get a full renovation. It wouldn't make sense to leave that station out of the picture when the other stations around it would be improved. |

The Far Rock stations are in way better condition. The only improvement the Rock Park side received recently were new station lights. These stations do get good ridership during the summer. |

There's no reason to shut down any station out here. I utilize the (A) and (S) everyday. I just used Beach 105 Street about an hour ago to head to Far Rock. It's a ghost town most of thw time, but it would still cripple commuters a bit out here if it were to be shut down. |

Why close it down and let it deteriorate? It would probably cost even more to take it down and if you let rot it's gonna bring down the el too. |

I would guess it's more accurate nowadays than years ago, because now it's computerized with Metrocard. Before, IINM, stats were nanual written down from counters, which I guess would leave some room for error. |

The current Mott Avenue station was built by the NYCTA and opened on 2/21/58. Trains terminated at Wave Crest from 6/28/56 until that date to permit widening of the elevated structure to accommodate the new station. The original LIRR station on the elevated structure built in 1942 (not 1956) had low level platforms not suitable for rapid transit use. The LIRR built a new ground level station a few blocks east of the old one. The old station was torn down and the property sold to become a shopping center. "Change at Ozone Park" by Herbert George documents all this as do many past threads. |

At Giants Stadium it would be more like 82,000 times the 8 games they would play there a fall season. Provided they had each game sold-out.And then the Jets play 8 games a year there also. Not to mention the concerts during the summer. I don't have the totals. But you get the idea. There would be more people at Giants Stadium over the course of the year than at Seaside. |
