Even if true, it doesn't matter. NYCT doesn't always go with the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) (or its successor, in this case) for spare parts. Sometimes another manufacturer makes a part that's a functional equivalent but costs less.

I remember when I first rode the R46's on the F in 1976. I thought to myself, they sound like a quieter version of the Budd Cars running on the Market-Frankford El in Philadelphia.
