They were the mainstay of the Bakerloo including what's now part of the Jubilee when I lived there. I think a few of them were still on the Northern back then but I wasn't there anymore by the time they came back on that line.I consider myself lucky to have lived there back then and to have lived in Paris when the Spragues, Z stock and Standards were still around. |

My mechanical ignorance is showing. I am too busy concerning myself with aesthetic things like destination signs, seating moquette, interior paint scheme (light blue) and interior light (similar to 1959 Tube and CO/CP SubSurface stocks). Whatever brake schedule they used it mattered little - the cars were all propulsion and the motors were extremely lively. It was a joyful ride to Shanklin and back.wayne |

Speaking of signs, my BMT standard signbox is getting a Three Stooges Division workout. I currently have it set as a Larry (14th St. L'c'l - Canarsie) and have also had it as a Moe (Myrtle Av. Exp. - Chambers St.); a Jerome (Jamaica L'c'l - Broad St.) and a Joe (Broadway-Brk'lyn L'c'l - Canal St. or Crescent St. or Atlantic Ave.) |

That's funny - I changed my signbox tonight in honor of my November 8, 1969 day trip - from Larry (LL) to Curly (QJ). And I pulled out some of the songs of the day to spin on the turntable - like "Jingo" by Santana and "I'm Tired" by the Savoy Brown Band - both of which evoke memories of November 8, 1969 and brand spanking-new R42's on the "RR" and "QJ" lines.wayne |
