Maybe you meant sitting shiva?

Not THAT one ... but COMMERCIAL DVD's are expected to erode (all a matter of oxidation intrusion from the edges of the covering to the metal) in about 12-20 years, same as tape survival ... RECORDABLE DVD's are lucky to last 6 years on anectodal evidence ... so you make DUBS and ONLY play the dubs so that the "longer-life" commercial press doesn't end up on the floor and suffer ... that's what I was saying ...

But ANY librarian of WORTHY storage treats will tell you - you NEVER risk the ORIGINAL copy, and every few years, you BACK IT UP.

Fact is, they DO ... 7 to 10 years is somewhat assured, but if the "passivation layer" which prevents the metal coating from being exposed to "air" then all bets are off. Only matters how good the PAINT coat is as to how it lasts ...

ADVICE: *IF* you have DVD's you value, MAKE DUBS! OR get spares. KEEP them dark ... if they REALLY MATTER to you, *hermetically* seal them in notrogen cask or helium. And ONLY open them to make a dub and seal them RIGHT back! It's ALL about not letting air leak into the passivation layer. MAKE DUBS!

Sadly, YES ... since DVD's are relatively RECENT "archive media" libraries can only "guesstimate" based on CD experience ... BIGGEST, most IMPORTANT survival for DVD's (like CD's) is KEEP them DARK and away from light. Do NOT allow RH to go above 85% nor below 45%, keep thermals between 60F and 85F and above ALL, TRY to limit flexing and oxygen absorption to the absolute minimum ... once the "metal" (pressed) or the "cyanide" (recordables) meet AIR as a result of "label and coating" deterioration, they DIE. :(

ALL about "preservation and environment." IF it's a recordable, KEEP IT DARK!

The subway tunnel was constructed in a L.A. freight yard. The HBO feature of Money Train called "Closer Look" had a aerial view of the tunnel, constructed out of wood.

Wait a mintue; Tony Scott will now direct TWO NYC Subway related films, The Warriors and Pelham.

Anyone who has seen his films like Top Gun, Days of Thunder, and Crimson Tide know that he caters to the MTV crowd. While I believe many of his films are decent to very good, the bigggest question now is will he fuck up the remakes?

Are they gonna use the LA subway in remake of The Warriors? The original was one of favorite movies when I was a kid although I haven't seen it in 25 years.

I don't know if you ever saw the movie Collateral with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. It's a great movie and they use the LA subway and the blue line for the final chase scene. Anyway that movie was originally written to be set in NYC but the location was changed to LA when they hired on Michael Mann as director. So I guess that it could happen although it wouldn't make any sense to have a movie called Pelham 123 and have it set in LA. They'll probably film all the exterior subway shots in NYC, but the inside of the subway cars will probably be on an LA sound stage.
