The catch with QBP was that when they were building THAT, there were actually two els, side by side. Some pics of that have been posted before. The lower level turnout though for the Third avenue el to go down Gunhill over to Webster which is what made this one so easy to spot. |

The Lower Level Platform for what was the Third Av El was completely obliterated, with parts of the structure removed, while other portions were incorporated into the new station house.-Stef |

Yes, it is the Gun Hill Road Station structure on White Plains Road of the that line. The lower portion would be the station of the Bronx 3rd Ave El extension to there. The White Plains road line was opened in 1917. The 3rd Ave El extension was opened in 1920. This image dates to about 1916. |

Posted by mellow one on Tue Jul 31 14:56:50 2007, in response to Guess the location, posted by mellow one on Mon Jul 30 22:19:08 2007. The Gun Hill Road Station on White Plains Road was constructed in 1916 and was opened in 1917. The two tier station structure was built to accomadate the junction of the northern extenson of the 3rd Ave El on Webster Ave to this point. The northern extension of the 3rd Ave El was built in 1918 and opened in 1920. The Bronx portion of the 3rd Ave El remained in use until 1973 as shown below. The lower level of the Gun Hill Road station remained unused until 2006. The former lower level 3rd Ave El platforms and the remnant of the connecting structure to Gun Hill Road were removed and the station complex was rebuilt to this current configutration. So, another remnant of NYC Elevated Railway History is gone. However, the former connecting rampjunction north of the station remains as evidence of its connection to the 3rd Av El. |

Go to them and you will find what you are looking for. |

But ... you made a MISTAKE! :)And if you CAREFULLY read what I asked, I didn't ASK for photos. I said that I hadn't seen what they did. Why take a photo when you can VISIT and SEE with actual meat camera? The implication was asking what they DID. If I want to see pictures, I can turn on the teevee. THOSE pics move and actually fill a screen! Moo. And no ... subways stuff isn't so important to me that I have a need or desire to go searching for stuff. Then again, I have a life. ;) |

Thanks for the continuing comedy ... your assumption is that I care, and it's misguided. I'm sure there's been photos of you out the wazoo. But ya see? Photos just don't DO it for me. We haven't MET. Until we do, I haven't seen you. A bunch of pixels whether on paper or a screen are just that. A bunch of dots. Doesn't compare to being IMMERSED in something real. Memorex just doesn't stick to the old meatrom like BEING there, and that's the media *I* prefer. :)You still misinterpreted my original post and are yammering on trying to justify it. Don't bother, it doesn't matter to me. I just wanted to know what they did, if anything. Don't need to see a photo, would have taken somebody's WORD for it. I'm real easy, at least in THIS shirt. Then you wouldn't have to say that you haven't seen it.You can try to justify why you didn't go look up photos all you want, but none of your excuses will hold water. |

Do you realize how silly you're making yourself look by continuing this? Nope. :)How about disassembling and rebuilding a control stand for a subway car? It'll make you feel a lot better about yourself, but I'll bet you're not into it. I'm not asking you to try it or make it a focal point. So why should I get a rip-roaring pants pole over pictures? I merely wanted to know what they did there. And I made the mistake of saying that I hadn't seen it (not that I needed to) not knowing your obsessive-compulsive thing would kick in the way it did. Do you have mental health coverage? If so, suggest taking your insurer up on it. =] |
