Hell of a nice guy and real motorman. I'm surprised to see Bob Marrone (real conductor) doesn't seem to get any credit on IMDB (that I saw) ... saw him a few times on the N platform when I was there but never worked with him. Supposedly he got the invite to be in the movie because the actor who was supposed to play the conductor never showed. Both got paid pretty well for their off duty time and suffered substantial ball-busting after it came out. :) |

I know Willie was, but Bob Marrone wasn't (real conductor who even did a stunt with a blood bag) ... that was the surprise. Both were speaking parts but Bob didn't even get mentioned ... |

But just wanted to let folks know who he is ... I'm pretty sure I remember him working the B at the time it was filmed. Saw him often over on the B/N platforms and the face was unmistakeable. :) |

Take away Popeye Doyle's lack of subway knowledge (asks clerk what is the next stop after Bay 50th) and some of minor goofs, and you still have the greatest car/train chase sequence ever filmed in motion picture history.Ditto! |

It's always great to see those pre-GOH R42's, with the huge bulkhead signs, teal seats, low railfan window and the Darth Vader sounding airbrakes. Growing up on near the J line, these cars were the newest ones we'd see, and they were rare and welcome sights, especially in the summer. |

Sadly, M/M Coke actually did die of a heart attack on the job. According to a retired sched mgr I worked with, he was working at 179 St and the T/D called on the crew room speaker for him to get on board his departing interval. He was sitting upright at one of the crew room tables with his eyes closed and when another employee nudged him on the shoulder to arouse him, he fell over dead. |

Yeah, the Cowboy Way was also filmed on the West End BMT at 62 St. But the chase over the Manhattan Bridge is great. (How did they run the R40s over the South side tracks when filming in 1993?-I though the Broadway south tracks were closed from 1988-2001. (except 1990).The Blues Brothers chase is a homage to the French Connection, under the CTA L. |

I grew up in his building and was friends with his son. Building being the Projects. Ya know all that other qwap over on another thread. For the most part you had decent hardworking folks living in them. Working for the Board of ED. and Transit. It provided affordable housing. During the 60`s our building was kept up very well. Then the financial crisis of `72 took hold and things started going downhill.... |

With unique individual line rollsign maps. Along each stop were the transfer points that indicated whether the line(s) crossed paths, merged into the same track, diverged out, or even started the route one way (with those black arrows, you had to figure out what's what.). Those are my favorite strip maps, bar none! |

I recall the black and white versions only. Also, the R42's were usually the only trains on the J line to be properly signed between 1977 and 1988. |

Or did they use the north tracks and simply close it to regular service for a weekend? Nothing could have prevented the use of the south tracks in 1993. Major work which required those tracks actually being removed in places didn't occur until 1995. I believe service on that side of the bridge was halted in 1990 only because it was dangerous. |
