Posted by L Train on Sat Jul 22 02:01:05 2006, in response to CANCEL THE W, posted by TheCanarsieConnection on Fri Jul 21 04:21:23 2006. I'm the biggest L train supporter but the W is a useful line. It isn't crush loaded like the 6, but most (if not all) of its seats are usually filled. The R isn't reliable enough to handle the Broadway local by itself. The W also relieves the N (which receives an influx of 7 riders at Queensboro Plaza). Just because a line is a local doesn't mean its useless. |

If you want to know what life would be like without the W in Astoria just come around middays when W trains are turned at QBP due to track work. At least 10 minute waits for jammed full N trains.BTW, the N train at night, say around midnight, is rush hour crush load full into Astoria. |

NYCT policy calls for a 125% seated off-peak load. (A 125% seated load is a passenger load equal to 125% of the number of seats. That is, if every seat in the car is filled, 20% of the passengers are standing.) Looks like a lot less than a 125% seated load to me.The rated capacity of an R-40 is 145 passengers. Do you see 145 passengers there? I see about half that number, probably less. |
