The W is supposed to supplement the N in Queens and the R in Manhattan, areas where extra service is needed, but not elsewhere along either route. R ridership is higher in Manhattan than Brooklyn. N ridership is higher in Queens than in Brooklyn. The W does a fine job supplementing both routes where the added service is needed. I rarely see empty W trains, unless it's following directly behind a late N or R. |
