Connecting the Archer Avenue/Hillside Avenue Lines:Which is easier/cheaper? Extending the Archer Ave. upper level to 168st./Merrick Blvd, then turning right to Hillside Avenue to connect to the 179th St. station west of 179th St. or to extend the Archer Ave. tracks east to 188th St., turn north and have them loop back to the storage tracks east of 179th St - Hillside Ave., leaving space for some future extension east of 179th St.? |

Extending the lower level anywhere is pointless. It'll just act as a shuttle for people to get the E train at Jamaica Center. I'd rather see money spent extending the F line down Hillside Ave. |

The E would be the way to go. However, I would think if the Upper Level was extended, the Lower level should be brought up to allow for a track connection between the two levels. I wouldn't think revenue operation of it would be necessary (keep the J ending at Jamaica Center or at best the next station east, however, the track connections would be great for flexibility of equipment moves. And also for emergency reroutes and GO's. |

A loop isn't needed - 179th has more capacity than it'll ever need, and Jamaica Center's can be increased by simply putting a station past the end of the tunnel, with sufficiently long tail tracks. That'd probably run less than the initial SAS segment (probably MUCH less). |

Yeah, but the J's equipment doesn't have a problem, not to mention that in the future, the R160's replacing the E's equipment, will be the same cars the J will be using (although in 5 car sets instead of 4), but that doesn't matter for equipment moves or emergenciy reroutes and GO's as GO's are usually done off hours anyway. |

"The Atlantic Branch is not redundant by any means."Definitely not. Based on what I've seen, I think eliminating the Atlantic Branch would result in significant reductions in peak service on all four lines that feed into it in whole or in part. (Some Babylon line trains use that trackage, especially peak.) At a minimum, both tracks would have to be moved to the Montauk ROW to maintain current peak service levels without overcrowding. |

You are taking the extremely busy Babylon Branch, adding the through Montauk trains, the Long Beach, the West Hempstead, and the Far Rockaway branches to all squeaze into two tracks? It ain't going to happen. Look at the MTA website, and see how many trains use those four tracks all day, and forget about rush hours. |

Have you ever seen the amount of LIRR trains that use those tracks? Those tracks are FAR from redundant LIRR tracks. The Babylon line alone needs two tracks to full capacity, that doesn't even take into account through Montauk trains, the Long Beach, the West Hempstead, and the Far Rockaway lines. |
