Opened around 1942, closed in 1977.If I'm not mistaken, it was all but abandoned for several years prior to its closing, with just a handful of trains per day and extremely low ridership. Here's a photo of Woodhaven, lower level, before it was abandoned:(Someone emailed this photo to me some time ago, and I apologize, I don't remember who it was, so can't credit you. I will take the photo down in a short while). And here's some photos I took of the upper level, right upstairs, this connecting station being on the abandoned Rockaway line. The lower level on the Brooklyn line lost most of it's riders once the transfer to the Rockaway line ended because of the abandonement of the Rockaway line: |

I still say Woodhaven residents got shafted. They lost 2 LIRR stations, and now have to use either the J or QB local lines to get to the city. The underground LIRR station would still seem to serve a purpose, especially considering how crowded Woodhaven has become as a community. |

Then re-open the LIRR Woodhaven stop for tranfers. NIMBYs would probably not compain about a re-opened Rock from Woodhaven to the Liberty El. |

The guy asking about the underground station, may not know that at one time there were actually two stations, and it was actually a transfer "mini-hub". It went from that to nothing. It's on topic to his question, and an elaboration of it. Anyone that knows of or has seen photos of the upper station could just have clicked away. Even someone on dial up that has seen the photos already, saw in my description that anything under that description was of the upper station, and stopped, and clicked away. |

That's when I walked it....in the early 90's. That's when I took the photos. I walked part of it in the sumnmer (when I took the photos of WOodhaven), but we stopped because the place further along was infested with poison ivy, and we only had shorts on, not to mention I get poison ivy if I walk through it (as does the friend I was with), so we left the ROW.I went on a walking tour of the line from Whitepot south to about Parkside. After the tour, we Walked down to the LIRR Montauk Branch, where the spot where the bridge over the Montauk Branch burnt down (it was wood). |

Oh, the tour I mentioned was in the winter, which is a better time to walk the line because of the Poison Ivy everywhere other times of year. The tour, come to think of it, was in the mid 90's, some years after the time my friend and I attempted to walk it. |
