Baltimore Metro & LA Metro cars-similarity ?

I always noticed some striking similarities between the Baltimore Metro cars and the ones on the LA Metro's Red Line. The exteriors and interior are quite similar. For a while, I even thought the Baltimore cars were built by Breda! (that is, until I learned Budd/TransitAmerica built them). Were they both based on the same or similar design or is this just a coincidence? (The Baltimore Metro cars date from 1983 and the LA Metro cars from 1993, about a decade apart).

and seeing the lacmta red line in person
then seeing my photos compared to baltimore

Although they have a similar look, they are way different cars. It seems that Breda was influenced by the Budd [Transit America] design.

If you want to see a twin to the Baltimore cars, go to Miami. The Metrorail cars are from the joint order built in 1982-83.

The only major difference between the Baltimore and Miami cars is that Miami Metrorail cars have electronic destination signs (as compared to MMTA's roll signs) and only have them on the sides of the cars.

As Salaam said, Dave's Railpix has pictures of the Miami Metrorail cars in LA. I vaguely remember their pictures in the newspaper when they began testing. As far as I know the cars did not run in revenue service, but I suppose it was possible.

If They were tested in Los Angeles on the Red Line then it is likely they tested all of the onboard train control hardware. This would indicate the Red line has the same basic train to wayside communication and an signaling system used in Miami and Baltimore. Baltimore uses the same system as WMATA metrorail. The question that I have never gotten an answer to is how tall are the cars (Miami / Baltimore) and more specifically what is the height from top of rail to car floor? WMATA cars are 10' 10" 3.3020m tall and the floor is 3' 4" 1.0160m from top of rail. Knowing these four systems use 75’ 22.8600m long cars, knowing the car height and height from top of rail to car floor would give one an idea if rolling stock can be run on the other systems in revenue service.

I am well aware of this fact. What I don’t know for sure is are the car floors of the Miami, Baltimore or Los Angeles cars the same height as WMATA platforms and can they fit through WMATA tunnels or vice versa.

I saw the Miami Metrorail cars in person, during a Red Line open house at the Red Line yard and shops on 5/23/92 (postponed from 5/2/92 due to, ummm "civil disturbances") There were 2 pairs, 126/127 (which is an anomaly, most Metrorail cars are in consecutive pairs with the even numbered car being highest, 126/127 is on exception, the other is 125/128) and 141/142. I took pictures which I may post in the future. It was the first time I had ever seen Metrorail cars, as at that time I had only been to the Miami area once, in 1978. They did not ever operate in revenue on the Red Line, they were borrowed from MDT for testing purposes because Breda was late in delivering due to a problem with a subcontractor. Breda did eventually deliver enough cars for the opening of the initial segment of the Red Line on 1/30/93.
