I've always wondered how he gets ahead of the trains he records.

I believe he has videogaphers at different locations who send in their videos.

It's not hard for him to figure out. And if a dispatcher or one of the train operators, or train service supervisors, tells him the route they are taking from Pitkin to Coney Island, he can wait at the right stations.

In this case he waits at Euclid and the R-46's come through on the express track. Hammers then takes the next passenger train, an A, or C, to Hoyt-Schermerhorn, which will likely pass the cars being towed, because passenger trains are the priority.

Those old cars being transferred to 38 yard will make a lot of stops waiting for directions from local supervision and letting some passenger trains pass first.

I'm not sure where this train "switched ends"(changed direction) to go southbound. But while it was, Hammers got on a southbound passenger train and waited at Church until it came.

He might have done that in other videos, but in this case it's a "work train" which makes it easier for him to follow around.

This train has to take a certain route from Pitkin and he can wait at the right stations until it comes.

Even though it's moving the in videos, that train will make a lot of stops, and wait, for passenger trains to pass first, and then move to it's destination. Hammers will ride the passenger train and get ahead of this work train to get to the right stations and then record.

Sounds like he's putting in a serious effort to make those videos.
