The book by Greg Gil and Louis Guadagni covers the R-46 front line signs and roll signs (p. 224-245).For some reason they did not detail the signs in as-built configuration. They did show "1977 Replacement Signs-Front Route" as follows: E (white on light blue bullet) F (white on magenta bullet) N (white on amber bullet) EE (white on orange bullet) GG (white on medium green bullet) S (black on white bullet) Here are the side signs ("same system as used on the R-44's" (according to Gil and Guadagni). They have N over S destinations on exterior plus corresponding colored bullet, while interior sign has a line-specific strip map and corresponding colored bullet. Hope this helps! |

Two immediately-apparent differences between the R44 and R46 were the front sign and the inside strip map displays. (The R44 continued with the R40 design; the R46 introduced a simplified, modern display.) R44: R46: The R46 introduced the front "bullet" which has been the standard ever since. |
