You got me curious and indeed on May 9,1965, some teenagers stole a penguin from the Aquarium, put it in a box and took it onto the train. In this brief video, the story is recounted. Now there's a shot of a subway car, which would have been a story in itself if it had been running on the West End. So what series car would have been running on the West End in May 1965? |

Ok, so me and my friends witnessed the same thing on the Brooklyn bound Sea Beach on the bridge, circa 1984. My neighborhood was right in the middle of it's transformation from Norwegian/Irish/Italian/Jewish to Chinese, so the trains had a lot of chinamen on them. A woman's bag ripped and a few of the crabs dropped to the floor of the R46 car and were running all around the car under the seats, and she was trying to gather them up, all while 3 or 4 blacks with the Kangols, gazelles, and sheepskin coats were laughing, pointing, and telling her to get them! Good times, we akk had a laugh! |

Since May 9 was a Sunday in 1965, West End shuttle service would have been covered by R-27/30s or R-32s. The old timers slept on weekends. |
