I still remember when for the most part subway trains were not air conditioned.

I remember when all of them were not air conditioned. But-- those cars had many more openable windows, and storm doors that stayed open, and (usually) working fans, so when the cars were moving there was always a breeze.

Also, because none of the cars were air conditioned, the stations and tunnels weren't as hot as they are today. Getting into a car with broken air conditioning is much worse than getting into an old car that never had it.

The a/c units on the R62A's need to be completely replaced. This has been going on for years. If 1 car is shopped, they lose all 5 cars for service.

These stations are so hot, the cars don't have a chance to cool down between stations.

Which is why they should NEVER have linked five cars together. I would go back to pairs like it used to be (or in some cases, a maximum of three cars) even if it's more expensive to retrofit some cars.

Considering all things, like the state of the city and it's inhabitants, maybe this is a good thing.

I always wonder what Robert Moses would have thought of this "congestion pricing" scheme, as that is 180 degrees from his philosophy (warped though it was in many ways).

Whose idea was it to tie one unit to five cars in the first place, I wonder?

All that hot air being expelled has to go somewhere. Makes you wonder if anyone's complaining about poor tunnel ventilation.
