The R32s usually stored in Canarsie Yard haven't been there all week so perhaps those will show up too. They used those Canarsie R32s on a fan trip over the summer so.. |

How different is the experience of riding in a real R10 versus the faux-R10 #1575? The interiors and exteriors are the same, and the doors on both types operate with air, so they sound the same. Are the brake noises different, or the smells, or the motor noises as they accelerate? R7A: R10: |

Yes, BIG differences...R-7A #1575 has an AMUE braking system, 190 H.P. motors, and a D-2-F or D-3-F compressor, weighing at 82,340 lbs. R-10's have SMEE braking system, four 100 H.P. motors, and WABCO A-1 3YC compressors (original), weighing each at 81,200 lbs. They also had dynamic braking and improved propulsion. with their quick start-up and go. The door release off (them after closed) each sound different, as well as the brake and motor noises. No smells from the R-10's and the later SMEE's. Also, the R-1/9's are not compatible with the R-10's. -William A. Padron ["a.c.f."] |

There's an video I saw of an R32-R16-R10 consist being transferred from 207th to CI Yard. The R32s were some of the cars from the Canarsie consist so that explains there absence. |

Obviously, the three-car combo consist of the R-10's (#3184 / #3189) and R-16 (#6387) would not be enough for the operation of that train, and it looks like the R-1/9's will be six cars in length, as they were seen yesterday (Friday 9/16/2022) at Church Avenue during the 12:00noon hour. The AB"s were seen at CI Yard also yesterday as well. -William A. On the R-10s, the interior door surface is uniform. |

Alas, yes! There were severe break-ins on much of the museum car fleet at 207th Street Yard (probably an inside job), and this most likely occurred after Bill Wall had retired and left. Most notably, much of the roll signs in them are missing and had disappeared. R-10 car #3184 now does not all of its front and side roll sign boxes (a very glaring omission), and R-33WF's #9307 and #9308 are missing their number plates, leaving a residue of waxing sealing markings surrounding the edges. To make up the shortfall, the shop forces created imitation roll sign insert panels that will fit into them. -William A. Padron ["s/#3189-3184-6387/n"] |

Why would a 3 car train of SMEEs not be enough for operation? 3 cars of mixed R-3s and an R-11 ran on Franklin and in the latr 1950s/early 1960s 3 car trains of R-10s operated on the Sunday AA Lcl and 3 car trains of R-16s ran midnights on the Jamaica Line. |

I know that the rebuilt 1575 was put on display at 34/6 to give the passengers a preview of the new cars so I wonder if passenger comments were solicited and possible used for the final design of the R-10s. |

In regular service, yes, and in the "Parade of Trains", yes, all mechanically. But in the latter, there was an overcrowding problem not only in the SMEE"s, but also in the BU cars, which is also a three-car event. It seemed everyone was jammed packed inside R-10 #3189 to the point I could not get any suitable interior camera shots, and it was like rush hour. There was some breathing room in the next car, #3184 and #6387 (R-16). Previously, when R-10 #3184 and R-16 #6387 operated with the other newer SMEE"s, like the R-42 (#4572-4573) and R-38 (#4028-4029), during these special events, there was a balance of passengers spread out amongst the cars in the consist. Also, it did not help matters when many of the vintage runs started late. The first run of the ACF SMEE's, for example, did not go off in each day until about a little after the 12 noon hour, instead of after the 11 am hour start. -William A. Padron ["BRB"] |
