Yes, this restriction came about in 2013 after the Sandy repairs. Something was installed such that they no longer fit

I agree with that. As for them not being in the Southern Division, they would be there if it were not for the incompetence of the TA engineers.

So, they are still in passenger service correct?
I asked a month or so back what routes they are currently operating on, but I don't remember all of them & didn't save the post.

Eastern division still right?
And any on southern division routes?
Thanks in advance.

Some of us think of them as BMT cars nonetheless. Except for the period of circa-1988-GOH - 2013, they also had at least some minimal presence on the Eastern Division.

75 foot cars are fine in Montague, the R was all R46 up until a few months ago.

As I said earlier, the. Montague Tunnel lighting strikes the roof of the R1 to R42. Those roofs are not perfectly curved like the R46 and up.

To repair you would need to take down all the lighting and associated materials and move them. Certainly a waste of money since the R42's are retired and the R32's are almost retired and are used on the IND anyway.

Not to mention I'd bet my house that nobody was disciplined.

But God help an hourly getting written up and disciplined for a petty offense.

The caste system/big fish vs. the little fish is alive and well at NYCT and will always be.

I'm surprised the TA engineers are all right with that kind of clearance restrictions to keep running anything through the tunnels. Anything from an overcharged air bag, bad chevrons or excessive lateral can tear down all their hard work anyway, no?

R32's are dwindling in numbers. They have been assigned to the A/C lines only for at least a year.

In the last week there have been only 3-4 R32's running on the C daily, with none on the A.

On second thought, the roofs are rounded on the R42/32.

But forever reason these cars are not allowed in the Montague. Maybe there is some kind of other place on the car sides that does not clear. Certainly the R1/9's do not have rounded roofs.

All I know is that a bulletin came out a few years ago. City Hall Dispatcher is responsible that this directive is enforced.

Us retirees and actives don't ask questions because transit has a military structure. All we were told was the lighting hits the roofs of the cars.

I wasn’t sure if it was the lighting or some other electrical components but in any case, any electrical components should have been installed in such a way that all cars that operate on the NYCTS will clear.

This is what I love about 3-D modeling, you can simulate different operating conditions, such as types of equipment through typical tunnel sections, curves, etc. I'm not sure if they use that , today , I'm just suggesting it.

The R42s are slightly rounded, but not enough. The 75 footers are 9 inches narrower at the roof line than the R32s so that makes all the difference.

It is like the roof profile of everything through the R38 had the mid section flatter, like a clerestory roof car, then rounded to hit the sides of the car.
