Statistics on crime do not necessarily reflect how people feel. Someone may be quite comfortable walking down a street where they have a much better chance of being robbed than riding a subway train. Familiarity with ones surroundings, and the confinement one feels underground play into it. Phones are often an easy target because people have them out and fixate on them, and people who don't mind contributing to crime are willing to buy them to save some money. Just like high end add-on audio used to be in cars. The more Cell and Wi-Fi equipped the system gets, the more people will have their phones out.If nobody bought stolen property, how much stuff would actually get stolen. |
