Randy, I am well aware about the Fulton St el, the Liberty Ave extension, and I just learned more about Pitkin Ave and 76th St, etc. It had to be part of the contract for IND subway construction under Pitkin Ave. But, nobody csn find any construction plans, etc. for the tunnel to 76th St- and beyond. If this was part of the IND Pitkin contract, they have to be somewhere, right? |

They apparently exist, but a few years ago when I checked out the ERA Sprague Library for the contract book for the area, it wasn’t in the collection and the only book available was for the one regarding Grant Ave and the ramp to the Fulton el which is where I got my info about the signaling from. |

One thing they could do first (if the radiation does not endanger people below ground) is scan a nearby similar 4 track local station - Shepherd Av - that's known to exist and use that as a sort of reference when scanning 76 St. It might simplify the data interpretation. |

It's pretty safe, no worse than cellular for the amount of ionizing radiation involved. More details on it here:http://www.gp-radar.com/ground_penetrating_radar.htm Certainly no harm in a tryout, but I don't think a qualified operator would need to bother, the data recovered is pretty cut and dry. What you're actually paying for is the interpretation of the reflections seen, and proper software helps. Here's a view of what is actually captured as raw data prior to interpretation of what was "seen": |

That was a bit unique for the iND since the terminals at Euclid and Lefferts are not physically on Fulton St even though the Signs read “Fulton-Euclid Ave” and "Fulton Lefferts Blvd” respectively, The exceptions seemed to be “Bkln-Church Ave” and “Jamaica-179 St” since the neither of those destination signs reflected the actual names of the lines those stations were on. |

Until 1954, "Bklyn-Church Ave", was the terminal on the Brooklyn part of the IND Brooklyn-Queens Line. Because it had not yet been connected to McDonald Ave, the City didn't want to call it the IND Prospect Park Line, nor could it be called the IND Culver Line. My theory is that's why the station was signed, "Bklyn-Church Ave". yes, i am aware that some old street guides called it the Prospect part Line. |
