How many times must I and other people knowledgeable about the area have to repeat ourselves? The extension down Pitkin Av and the connection to the Fulton St el were intended to coexist. The entire infrastructure S/O Euclid was constructed with that in mind and the model board at Euclid tower bears this out. The Pitkin Av subway was supposed to connect to the LIRR ROW via a portal in the vicinity of old Aqueduct station while the connection to the Fulton St el was to have been made as it eventually was but with existing BMT signaling used S/O 80 (Hudson) St. When the extension down Pitkin proved unusable, the only modification made was that the connection to the LIRR would have to be made from the Fulton el structure and so the current Liberty Jct was designed which of course required new signaling to accommodate the junction that was not included in the original plans. |
