I always ate breakfast at Miss Mary's on Green Island, then a short hop to the Ford plant at the end of the road. I worked for Ford and drove a Chevy. In 1961 I had 1960 black Chevy convertable.. Traded that in 1962 for a 62 Chevy Maroon hardtop . That really pissed them off. :) |

If Amtrak could reinstate catered upper end sandwiches, salads, pastries, etc (such as are sold in the NE stations by Au Bon Pain) on Empire Service trains, diners at tables in Amfleet equipment could have decent meals. There is also the precedent on pre Amtrak trains, of ordering from a short menu for to the train delivery at a station ahead. Again, having these (licensed, health inspected, etc) outside caterers show up at a station where the dwell is 5-10 minutes could provide much better food at essentially zero waste as it would be only as ordered. This was feasible in telegraph days; certainly easy w/smart phones. |

All I know is back in the 70's , they stocked NEC trains from Springfield with a plain roast white meat turkey sandwich on whole wheat sliced bread, and it was fine. They even nuked if for you, and threw in a free bag of chips. Now they can do nothing better than "Cuban" sandwich, flatbread, all sorts of spices, and too much money. |

I had many stick shift cars, never wore out a clutch. Tore up a rear end in my 57 Chev. My mechanic (the boss), at the gas station I worked, put in new side gears and it still made noise, tore it apart and it needed a ring and pinion. Now with the arthritis in my knees, I'm glad I have an automatic. |

Yeah, that's how I ended up with a two year old car. It was a shop queen and no matter what they did with it, it would eat clutches. Supposedly quite a few of them had that habit. After about 6 months of it, I resold it to a mechanic and last I'd heard, he was still replacing them. :)I actually made a few bucks on that sale. |

I had a clutch problem like that with my first VW Squareback. I finally gave up and traded it in for an automatic of the same model. I asked the salesman at VW if he eouldlet me know why I was burning out so many clutches and he told me that the maintenance staff at the dealership found a kink in the clutch cable that was preventing the clutch from fully engaging thus the car was riding its own clutch. A few years later when I rented a stick shift Fiat in Ireland I had no problems at all even on hills. |

I had a 400 bug, same story as the Mustang. Only difference was that a new plate and cable fixed it for good. But the local dealer in the Bronx never figured that out.Took me a while to get manual down, but once I did I loved it. And you know how the Bronx is for "rollback" on the hills. You then proceeded to argue with that knowledgeable poster, as well as all the additional knowledgeable posters who followed to also correct you. So many people took time to correct your severely mistaken ideas and you can't take 3 seconds to apologize to everyone for wasting their time going on and on about things you obviously have no clue about?
