While all the other things are definitely hysteria, the poison ivy is a real problem. I have gotten poison ivy a few times, and it is FAR from fun. And while yes, long pants may help, it is still able to be gotten. The oils of poison ivy DOES stay on your clothes, and you can pass it from touching your pants, shirt, etc which came in contact with it to the rest of your body, as well as when you do your laundry, etc. It DOES remain. The winter months do cut down on the threat, however, the oils in poison ivy are present in the vines in winter too. |

The Wikipedia authors have heard of them in the northeast. The map doesn't illustrate concentrations. The text says "In the United States, they are found mostly in the southeast, the south, and the Midwest." They're an inevitability in Chicago in the summer, but I've never known anyone who got one in New York or New England. |

From the time that line was abandoned to the time of those photos, is almost as long as the time from those photos to now.....and nature gets stronger and stronger as time goes on, so it must really be a jungle by now.....the trees have to be at least double the thickness, and so many more of them..... |

The original plan for a super express track along the LIRR right of way got shotdown a/c too many apartment houses & huge eminant domain issues too close to the tracks, on either side from Woodside to Kew Gardens. Thousands of folks would have to be re-located so up went the white flag on that idea. |

And for the record, anyone that reads OTChat here knows that all of those are exactly for how you treat me and others for as long as you have been posting on OTchat.Actually, when I first came to OTChat, I was perfectly civil— you started shrieking childish insults until eventually I got tired of your bullshit and threw a few barbs back. If you were to look through the archives, you'll notice that I'm perfectly civil to people who are civil to me— if you don't want to be treated like a dick, you need to stop acting like a dick. You get treated the way you treat others. A lesson you need to take to heart. If you notice, you are absolutely the only one I treat that way, and it's well deserved after your behavior here. What behaviour is that? Links, if you don't mind. |

I have met many of them personally... I've met plenty of SubChatters and we've all managed to get along. Hell, I got along fine with Chicagomotorman in real life. It's like boxing— you don't hit your opponent outside the ring. ...and even those I haven't, we still have plenty of respect for eachother. You have certainly dedicated yourself to the task of losing what respect I had for you. You however, are one of the most malicious and miserable people here. Srsly? I'd love to see you try to justify this assertion. Or alternatively, you could just grow the fuck up. You lost an internet argument and so you've been holding a grudge for the better part of a year? And yes, you act like a dick. Link or it didn't happen. But that's the image you have made here for yourself. Not among anybody who counts. And that is because I have absolutely no respect for you, as you never had any for me. Actually, I had plenty of respect for you at the start. Then you started responding to rational arguments with childish insults. I'm afraid you earned your reputation here. If you'd like to be respected again, try acting like an adult. You are a vile human being, and there's very few I can actually say that about here. I think you have to stop being a white supremacist before you're allowed to say that. Even Edwards and I have a good respect for eachother, no matter how much we may disagree on some topics or throw eachother good natured shit every now and again. You on the other hand..... You're the one who shrieks childish insults. You're the one who throws a temper tantrum whenever you're proven wrong. I only lean down to your level once I'm tired of your bullshit. If you decided to stop acting like a dick, we could go back to being civil at any time. |

We always did.You haven't shown the mental aptitude needed to actually understand any of my arguments, so I'll just chalk this up to Dunning-Kruger. But you are a complete asshole, and that's the point. Oh please. We were having a perfectly civil debate until you ran out of even semi-coherent arguments, at which point you threw a tantrum because you weren't mature enough to admit you were wrong. You've spent months fuming about how much of an "asshole" I am for proving you wrong. Would you please just grow up? Everyone here yanks chains. Some more than others. But you actually believe people don't see your act and shit here which is actually pretty hilarious. The only act I have is the whole Nilet Railroad thing, and I'm well aware that people can see it. Presumably you meant to refer to the deluded fantasies you made up to help yourself cope with the fact that I've been right about almost everything while you have been exposed as a white supremacist. |

Believe it or not, I've never been in there. But this does lead me to wonder- I thought the D-types didn't run much, if at all out "East" (disregard the 1977 fan trips), so A/Bs or Multis are more likely to have been at Chambers St.But what equipment ran on the Nassau Loop service prior to the R27/30 and R32? Maybe D-types...? |

Actually, it was originally the CENTRE St loop even though an actual Centre St loop which would have involved the partially built ramp to the Bkln Br was never completed. When the connection to the Montague St tunnel was eventually completed the resulting line was called the "Nassau St Loop" even though the actual portion of the line under Nassau St is only a couple of blocks long . |

Although we obviously disagreed, the debate was perfectly civil, proving that I have no problem dealing with other people. Then you butted in shrieking that I was an asshole, completely unprovoked— proving that you lack the social skills necessary to hold a civil debate with anyone you disagree with. Even though you chose to act like a dick, I offered a civil reply nonetheless. As the debate continued, you called me a moron, completely unreasonable, and an extremist while I remained completely civil— you acted like a dick right from the start, but it wasn't until my fourth post in that I finally got sick of your asshattery and started insulting you back (not counting ironic echos of your own words). Below, is a URL for Public Service Commission report for 1916 page 192. the reports details the PSC discussions, (during the previous years, 1914/ 1915) with the IRT about replacing Composites in the subway with steel cars. http://books.google.com/books?id=BrsbAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA192&lpg=PA192&dq=public+service+commission+wood+subway+cars&source=bl&ots=KxUkfif0Pw&sig=_KQWdNdrgGfq14CrWq4VzXYFXPk&hl=en&sa=X&ei=bpNIVOe0Gs-PNuHJgIAJ&ved=0CDsQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=public%20service%20commission%20wood%20subway%20cars&f=false To quote from this text: On January 12, 1915 the Commission issued an order "A" directing the Interborough Rapid Transit Company to retire from operation on its subway lines known as the Manhagttan-Bronx rapid transit railroad and the Brooklyn-Manhattan rapid transit railroad, the cars of wooden construction known as copper-sheathed Composite cars ...on the subway lines and replace the cars with cars of all steel construction...beginning such retirement and replacement by May 1, 1915 and completing the same by December 1915; thereafter not to put into service on its subway lines any of the cars of wooden construction so replaced and not to operate any casr on the subway lines for ... passengers except cars of steel construction...after the ... replacement of any of the wooden cars... not to put any of such ... cars into service on its subway lines... [elided text refers to: extending the deadline for IRT's replacement of Composites to April 1, 1916] ... Under date of March 23, 1916 the company wrote to the commission ... that all composite passenger bodies had been removed from subway service ... the Commission on April 6, 1916 ordered the aforementioned communications be filed. so that's where the 1915 date comes from. I realize the above might only refer to the IRT's rolling stock, and not an outright ban of operating wooden cars anywhere in the subway. Interesting too that they refer to the IRT Brooklyn Lines (contract 3) as the Brooklyn-Manhattan rapid transit railroad. This from nycsubway.org Culver Line page: (As a result of the Malbone Street BRT disaster of November 1st, 1918, wooden cars were not permitted to run in the subway). so, research was done for that article the gives the 1918 date. I'm wondering though, would you be to provide/ find some kind of primary source for the 1918 date. It would be much appreciated. If you can't, and got the info. from a secondary source I understand. However, even with the 1918 ban I have a question about the C-types. Previous post said they operated [in subway] through the Nassau Loop, but they were not built until 1923-1925. That's five years after the 1918 date. long post. thanks for reading. - PS - Larry Redbird could you help out here with a source for the 1918 ban? if so, thanks. |
