My understanding was that one of the "A" (8001 or 05) Cars was to be designated a Pump Car, but those plans may have changed, or at least put on hold (budget issues?). It's not entirely clear so it's merely speculation on my part.I do think that even if 8001, 05, 06, and 10 aren't used as part of the pump train, I wonder if these could be rebuilt into work motors? There is the question of preservation too... -Stef |

If I had to speculate, the trend I'm seeing is that the old is being replaced by the new; like in the case of the Redbird being replaced by the R110Bs at Floyd Bennett Field. I could see perhaps the remaining cars replacing other older cars; two R110Bs to replace the R30 Rail Adhesion Cars, and one R110A to replace the R33 version. In terms of preservation, I could see one of the R110A A-cars being saved, with one R110B from the 3007-3009 group. |

It doesn't look too good if a city has to buy new cars after the last batch only lasted 15 years. If and when that happens, the feds ask the agency to return the money owed them. You buy a 15 year car, you get only enough money for a 15 year car. Again, perfectly reasonable to me.The R110s were test trains that were not bought with federal funds so the same provisions you'd see on a more typical car contract were not included. The cars themselves were designed for 40 years (if not more, a lot of R110A structure is on the heavy side compared to the follow-on R142As). |

Not enough time to get the trains done when wanted for this to happen so now the pumps are on flats. The B cars remain as reach cars. The A cars may be used for future pumps cars. |

Posted by Stef on Tue Dec 17 19:17:56 2013, in response to R110A/R188, posted by Stef on Sat Dec 7 03:09:41 2013. As reported by Jace, work is continuing on the R110A "B" Cars with the main pumping equipment being installed on a flat car on an interim basis. This is due to a time constraint.Cars 8001,05, 06, and 10 will be set out for now; but they are still penciled in to be the designated pump cars. There's no interest in preserving them for the Museum at this point. When the work is finally done, they will probably resemble their R65 Cousins; the ends of the cars will most likely be cut out. Further info on the R110B's: 3001-03 HAVE NOT DEPARTED for Floyd Bennett Field. Car 3007 was sent out to replace the R33's. 5 R110B's remain on the property in storage. R188 Recap: 7838-43 are delivered and were transferred from 239th St to Pitkin Yard Last Night. One of the SBK Locos operated as the lead loco going South. I'll start looking for 7844-48. -Stef |

Regardless though, it's still valuable info and it's all really appreciated anything that's shared with us. :)Now if i may share this info, regarding 3001-3003, last Friday I did see 3001 sitting on the same track it has sat on for a while at the 215th Street end of the yard. But I'm not sure if that car was isolated from the others, or still part of the 3-car set (the car was only partially viewable, it was behind a building there). As far as I can also tell, 3007 and 3008 (and I assume 3009) were still parked behind the R12 car. Regarding photos, I use Flickr to host the photos I've shared on here. For me it's easy to upload photos and to use. I'd recommend it. |

I wish that my sources would get their info straight because right now I'm looking kind of foolish posting stuff here that may be in error. Very annoying indeed. From 207th St based on observations of a "Source": It looks like now that the R110B Car on Track 65 is 3001. 3007,08,09 are still together (!) as is 3002-03. R110A 8002, 03, 04, 8008, 09 are inside and set up with the water pipes in each unit, Pump Car 56 (retired) is inside as well, this will be going to NYTM soon (Tracks 12,13). 8001 and 05 are sitting on Track 45, 8006 and 07 on Track 49, and 8010 sits alone on Track 50. R36's 9586 and 87 are essentially done with the body work at this point, they are waiting for their turn in the paint shop. -Stef |

Info seems ever so changing...can be frustrating of course, but it's still news and still appreciated. So perhaps 3001 was already isolated when I last saw it last Friday. I didn't see 3002-3003, though. Interesting development on the R110As, sounds like they've made plenty of progress. Can't wait to see all 10 cars done eventually. Cool development on the BMT Pump Car! They've been working a long time on that one; saw this photo on the museum's Facebook page: Seen 9586-87 done for some time, sitting with the R40. Like the progress so far. Hopefully they'll start working on the rest of the Redbirds soon and the lone R40M at Concourse. |

Last big thing done on that pair was a repaint in 2009. They moved to Pitkin then after to join the museum R42 there.I believe I read elsewhere and have been told from some that there is an interest in lashing up a 10-car consist of museum cars (R32/38/40/40M/42) sometime in the future (heard the same about the remaining Redbirds, which last I heard, will be worked on eventually pair by pair). That would be up to those in the inside to fill us in on those cars. Though based on observation, the pair doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon; as soon as the School Car R30 pair left CIY to scrap back in October, the R40M/42 pair was moved in it's place (and the R16 pair was moved closer to the cars). I would speculate that there is interest in that pair (maybe by RPC?). But what the purpose of these is, again, would be up to those in the inside to say. |

Had a exterior paint job, But needs alot of work inside and out. Could happen but it depends on what car has priority for restoration. I will not be keeping up with these things that was my last visit to 207. Others will. |

Quite an accomplishment given how there were just 4 cars in 2003 to the amount there are now after 10yrs. much as it's great they are running, it would also be nice if they can get the r16, r30 and r34 running too. |
