If the MTA has sufficient and reliable service such clocks would not be needed as there would always be a train about to arrive. |

But you wouldn't need such service 24/7, and it is during the less frequent hours when they are most wanted. When I wait for the 4/5/6 at Union Square at 8:30am, they don't help at all, but when I'm waiting at Union Square for the Bkln Q at 10pm it would be nice to know how long, or even better, waiting for a B at the time they stop running and to see there won't be another. |

When trains show up reliably at 10 minute intervals or less you don't need to know when the next one is coming. PATCO used to work that way until they cut their service way back. |

Sorry, I disagree. It's better to keep the customers informed that not to. Plus, the signs are good for figuring out if you should take the local or the express. |

Currently at the 59th St station (A)(B)(C)(D), there are announcements that stress the word "train" after an obvious hole in which the line name will later be inserted. It comes across as if some of us were actually waiting for a BUS down there!Bob |

Not only that, but in cases where the local vs express running time difference between point A and point B is minimal, taking a local that arrives first will often put you at your destination sooner than an express that may come 2 or more minutes later. |

Even if trains are every 20 minutes, if they can be counted on to arrive within a minute of their scheduled time, you don't need a countdown clock, just a print schedule...That said the only line of any length that I can see being able to pull off high on time performance would be the G. |

The simple one on some CPW and IND Queens blvd stations is good enough, install that at all IND stations and call it a day... save millions. |

Like this is revolutionary. Sibways such as in Paris and London, both older than many of the lettered lines, have had these for decades. Only in the mentality of NYCT which uses fare cards with decades old technology would entering the late 20th century let along the 21st century be the slightest question. Of course they are necessary and part of what any normal subway system shold have today and it is a reflection of the disregard for passengers exhibited throughout NYCT that they haven't been up and working for decades here either. |

NYCT uses the same type of non-RFID fare cards that many other systems current use. There's nothing wrong with that technology. Show me a "decades newer" non-RFID system? |

Are you trying to tell me the metrocard isn't dated technology? Dipping a metrocard in a bus fare box, taking one or two seconds to register is one of the reasons it takes so long for buses to load. Other systems were moving on to smart card technology when the MTA scrapped the token for the metrocard...smart card technology would add so much flexibility to fares yet we wasted our time with the metrocard! |

Yes, I'm telling you it isn't dated non-RFID technology and that many other systems use it. It is completely incorrect to fault NYCT for using a fare card that many other systems use and continue to use. |

Even if a full-fledged count-down clock system would like multiple-millons of dollars, and years to install - just how difficult would it be install the system used at 59th Street-Columbus Circle, and the other CPW stations - where computerized train arrival announcements are made over a public address system?Just wondering.
