All bets are off as to the colors beyond Euclid, since the colors starting at Broadway-East New York are wrong.

Following the red Utica (and Ralph and Rockaway), Broadway-East New York (and Liberty etc) should have been purple, followed by a blue Euclid (and 76 etc), and then a green CBB. (This is the same sequence shown on the Concourse with red Tremont, purple Fordham, blue Kingsbridge, green Bedford Park, and Queens Blvd with red Ely, purple Queens Plaza, blue Roosevelt, green Continental, yellow Union Tpke.)

Since they got the existing stations east of Rockaway wrong, there's no certainty to their keeping the sequence correct in the unbuilt ones.

In the original design, the color changes at the next express station going either northbound or southbound from downtown Manhattan. Therefore, aside from the fact that the (G) is a two-track line (no express), it would have been necessary to arbitrarily choose a point in Brooklyn equivalent to downtown Manhattan, so that colors could change in both directions from it. It was easier to make the entire line one color.

Clearly implies that the Cross Bay Blvd and 106th St stations are along Linden Blvd, although it would have looked better if 85th St had been placed a little further east.

Actually, if you go to Google Street View and look at the street sign on the telephone pole for that short block - it says "LINDEN BLVD".

I would have just treated it with a change at every station. Whatever sequence comes after hoyt, and then keep going along the line. it would have made it much less bland.

It was actually built past the station as a provision for further extension into the east Bronx.

They probably got this proposed route a lot earlier than 1940. The 1939 Hagstrom Manhattan map still showed the 6th Ave el.

There are three distinct greens along the Crosstown - the two-toned one that matches Hoyt (up to Flushing); the Nile green found at Broadway and Metro-Grand, and the Hunter green used from Nassau Avenue to Court Square. Granted they aren't the prettiest colors in the system, but they're different enough to be somewhat interesting. Add the oddball architecture at some of the stations (Nassau, Myrtle-willoughby, etc.) and it's not all that dull. And they don't match all the I-beams to be green either - some are red, some blue, some yellow etc.

Yep ... I know ... didn't think I needed to go that far on it. For all the times I had to hoof across the park from Webster, that would have been fabulous if it had a stop over on White Plains Rd on the way east. Coulda used it. It was either rot for a northbound to Gun Hill or down to Fordham for the autobus ...

My route- East of 205th St, diagonally under Metro North and the Bronx River Pkwy, and Duncomb Ave, to Gun Hill/White Plains Roads. Original proposed route- across to Burke Ave (transfer there at White plains Rd), and continue east on Gun Hill Road.

A Bronx crossing route would probably be better towards the center of the borough, down towards Tremont more optimally for best borough ridership since the crosstown buses have always been awful.

Obviously that's where it would end up ... it'd need to cross all the other lines to be of much use for the borough. But if we're doing it north of Tremont, Burke looks like a decent path ...

I was partners with a musician with "Elephant's Memory" in a business on 233rd to the east of WPR. While the 3rd Avenue el ran, it was fairly tolerable getting back and forth from the storefront and studio. Once the el was torn down though, that would have been a gigundo pain in the butt. One of the big problems with the Bronx is that you can only go transit north and south from wherever you are and bus service absolutely chewed dead donkey lungs east and west. Having that IND crosstown really would have made a major difference wherever it went.

Both "Liberation Special" and "Cryin' Black Sheep Blues" have licks that I like to keep up my sleeve. Tex is up there on the list of my many sources. That descending blues scale in the 7th bar of the lead in "Black Sheep" is especially effective.

I think I've already seen it on Forgotten New York. Besides the partially built portion between 88th St and Cross Bay Blvd, most maps until recently showed a fancy interchange at N/S Conduit Av, with Linden Blvd continuing over a ROW down the middle of Tudor Park to 88th St. This ROW is still visible between two fences. When Dumont Av was first connected thru to 88th St, there was even a curb cut at the southwest corner of 88th and Dumont, since closed up.

However, at the time the cross Bronx subway was originally planned, Co-Op City did not exist although subway construction towards that general area would probably have spurred some sort of development where none had previously existed as was the case with rapid transit construction in Queens.

Who knows, a subway connection across Gun Hill might even have saved Freedomland! One of the things that killed it was lack of direct transportation.

It never connected. Check out http://gis.nyc.gov/doitt/nycitymap/?z=7&p=1027284,184494&c=GIS1951 showing the area in the 1951 aerials. The two buildings used by NYCDOT on the east side of 88th St were already built by 1951, but Linden Blvd between them was always closed. Also, the westbound overpass from N. Conduit Av. to Linden Blvd. does not appear either in this photo, or in other photos from 1954 either.

That's assuming Freedomland would have even been built. If a subway had been built in that general area, some sort of apartment complex not unlike Parkchester might have been built there instead.
