It never connected. Check out http://gis.nyc.gov/doitt/nycitymap/?z=7&p=1027284,184494&c=GIS1951 showing the area in the 1951 aerials. The two buildings used by NYCDOT on the east side of 88th St were already built by 1951, but Linden Blvd between them was always closed. Also, the westbound overpass from N. Conduit Av. to Linden Blvd. does not appear either in this photo, or in other photos from 1954 either.
