Posted by chuchubob on Fri Oct 7 11:45:48 2011 consist of train 29 Capitol Limited backing to Union Station from Ivy Citytrain 91 Silver Star to Miami via Tampa arriving from New York AEM7 909 staged to back onto train 92 Silver Star after the P42DC's from Miami come off train 92 Silver Star departing WAS for NYP consist of train 30 Capitol Limited backing to Ivy City after arrival at WAS from CHI diesel power from train 92 Silver Star removed at WAS moving to Ivy City train 29 Capitol Limited departing for Chicago; view will be blocked by the Metro train |

What's to understand? Why go through the trouble of maintaining a piece of equipment which can only be used in one position on a handful of trains when you can haul around some varnish for some much needed funding? :)Still, it would have been cool to see the Pacific Parlor cars modified to have a sort of observation area at the one end and to have them tagged on the rear of the train. |

Well...perhaps not beyond remedy, but the Coast Starlight, as with most of the western long-haul trains, is normally marshalled with the sleepers at the front of the train. This would have to be reversed if the Pacific Parlours (note the affected U) were retained as a first-class-only amenity but reconfigured for end-of-train use. But, would Amtrak really be justified in doing this this for their oldest rolling stock, dating from 1956? Alan Follett Hercules, CA |
