I kinda like 49th St. I usually advocate for restoration of original mosaics, but that is one station I hope they leave alone. I remember that station as a kid in the 70's, and it was like an oasis in the middle of how crappy the whole subway was back then. It's hard for anyone that didn't live with the subway in the 70's or 80's to understand.

It's horrible. I said that from day one. All the people praising it on opening day, and I was just saying, "what a horror". It it isn't aging well.

I'm surprised that no-one has nominated 76th Street station on the IND Fulton Street line in Queens yet. It receives worse service than any other subway station and the state of the décor is so bad that it is unphotographable.

Relatively new? It's very new. I'm surprised to hear that it's so worn.

Agreed. To get in you do not need a MetroCard but a jackhammer :)

175th St is one of the few underground stations where you still have to go down to get to street level.

Well while we're on it, would you mind elaborating a little on some positive qualities, or anything about Chambers St that is to your liking? I'm curious.

There's plenty of things. If you can't find them, I can't help you. But it's a wonderfully cavernous station, with high ceilings, and a glow of elegance even in all it's shambles.
