Posted by chuchubob on Mon May 16 23:28:24 2011 Train 30 arrived on time from Chicago with Pacific Cape and Beech Grove on the rear.    I almost caught the Varnish heading for the wye, but a couple trains were in the way.  I caught them returning from the wye.    Train 29 had B32-8WH 517 as second engine. These are relatively rare in the Northeast.

I see among the upgrades are a new 40th anniversary sign, and a windshield wiper for the camera (and also new carpeting and some kitchen refurbs)! |

The front half of 10001 are sleeper cabins, similar to what viewliners have, but without the top row of windows. This is also why both sides of it have different window patterns. |

The track engineering dept uses it for visual inspections (unlike it's brother 10002 The Corridor Clipper, 10001 does not have equipment for inspecting the tracks/catenary, but it does have a mounted camera and headlights and a balcony for doing visual inspections). The car has a kitchen and a lounge area (club business class seating, but a more open area) and a couple of sleepers.Amtrak basically takes it out for VIP events (this was the car Obama & Biden rode for inauguration day). Already this year, it's been seen on the Silver Star, Cardinal, Lake Shore Limited, Wolverine and Capitol Limited. |
