When I was coming back from LI a few months ago, I was talking to an LIRR engineer about the tinted window in the cab door which also has shield that can block that window completely. He said that he keeps the shield up because he doesn't want anybody looking over his shoulder when he is operating. I wonder if like the NYCT T/Os who cover the R-44 through 68 cab windows in violation of the operating rules and yet operate with R-32 cabs open he is one of the engineers who operates with the M-3 cab door open. I don't know why the MTA couldn't have put the same type of glass on the M-7s and M-8s that was installed on the NYCT NTTs so that the roadbed could be observed but the operator could not.
