The BT units were used to add to 2 X 3 car B units to make up 8 car trains for rush hour Brighton and 4 Av local service. Before the latest run of BT units were created, 2 A cars were added to 6 car trains to make up the same consists. According to historical documentation, when the 2400 series cars were first unitized by the BMT in the 1920s, some were made into BT units and some were made into 2 car units with a 4000 series trailer equipped with controls at one end and designated AX. Eventually all the 2400 series car were combined into 3 car BX units with the 4000 trailer in the middle until the trailers were replaced with some 2600 series A cars to make more B units and the trailer were scrapped. I don't have any documentation as to whether the original BT units retained their door controls but the ones made in the 1960s definitely did not have them and thus a single BT unit could not be used by itself on the Culver shuttle.
