I was actually thinking about the debate period when the idea of 24/7/365 service with ferry waits of no more than 30 minutes, was being talked about.I did not mean to imply that that was the discussion now. At that particular time, there were folks on the forums (and not just this one) who said and/or implied that there was "low ridership" - ie that the ferry boats were not filled stem to stern during all of the midnight hours trips - that therefore less service was appropriate. Meaning hourly service on the ferry - with only one (1) running during those midnight hours, and by implication also on Saturday and Sunday nights of 7pm and after when the terminals can be brimming with people. The part of that idea that gets to me, is that sense that those same folk complain, moan and groan about subway service that runs once every 20 minutes. As if waiting for a train every 20 minutes was the worst possible thing in the universe, but it is okay for Staten Islanders to wait 60 minutes for crowded ferries. It is the regional unfairness - that it is really bad for "me", but okay for "you". Again, I did not mean to imply that the was the discussion now. Mike |
