The "B" in QB was for via BRIDGE, a holdover from pre Chrystie days when the Brighton Lcls ran via tunnel (QT) when the Brighton Exp was running and via bridge (QB) when the Brighton Exp was not running. Although according to the IND lettering system, trains running express anywhere on their route were to carry a single letter denoting express, certain individuals in the TA wanted the post Chrystie Bway/Brighton service to be designated as a local (QB) since it was local on the Brighton Line. |
