Maybe it's one of those little-known neighborhood names (Dunton, Winfield) that just disappeared from use entirely.It may have been an actual community though. Apparently there was a Westbridge Civic League that filed a complaint with the PSC complaining that Westbridge station should have rail service on a par with Kew Gardens and Forest Hills. In the Matter of the Complaint against The Long Island Railroad Company's Service to and from New York and Westbridge. I thought that since adjacent Kew Gardens was named after a London landmark, perhaps Westbridge or West Bridge was a similar attempt to endow a developing neighborhood with an English cachet. Unfortunately searching London neighborhoods made that idea a dead-end. |
