Even though the R-38s came after the R-32s there was a remote possibility that the R-38s were going to be painted LAHT instead of stainless. Somewhere, possibly either here or on SubTalk, I'm not sure where, I saw an artist's rendering of what a painted R-38 would have looked like. It had an R-36 style paint scheme but the blue was much lighter more like the color of the blue stripe that the R-38s did have. Actually, I would have liked to see either the R-36 paint scheme or the R-10 racing stripe paint scheme applied to all the painted SMEEs in the fleet. |
