"The LIRR will incur a far greater cost in substations and terminal yards with incremental expansions of the third rail system than they would with a one time electrification using high voltage AC catenary. "Unsupported assertion. So you're saying that the LIRR has available yards beyond Riverhead and Patchogue to turn and store electric trains in? I just want to be clear we're all aware of just how unfamiliar you are with the area. Incremental additions of third rail service are the most cost-effective way to enhance service matched with demand. There is no need to electrify the entire system. Unsupported assertion. Do you have ridership figures for the entire Montauk line? Do you know the cost of both third rail and catenary installations? |
