Mr. Obama might be my President, but he surely does NOT represent me.I am not tax exempt. The reason why I pay no income tax is that I have no income. Zero, Nada, Zip. I do pay sales taxes, gasoline taxes, and would you believe property taxes. Our farms and business are not tax exempt. Why should they be. The church *is* tax exempt, but the monastery has not been since we closed our schools. The monastery does not receive funding from the parish or the diocese but is fully self-supporting. We do accept contributions for projects such as the church renovation, or the refurbishing of guest rooms or the courtyard. But these are used by many people besides ourselves. And oh yeah, at the moment we have several contractors here working on an electrical project. That is paid for out of our pockets. And we tithe a percentage of our income to other charitable venues as well as providing relief, fuel and funds for the needy. Me thinks you should climb off our high horse, shoot the horse, and provide the meat to the poor. ROAR |
